For the last few months I've been working with my dear friend Steven Fisher on showcasing his ceramic creations in the digital world. The premise is simple: he hand-crafts beautiful yet very functional ceramics. He designs his pieces first following function. Meticulous attention is then paid to embellishing surfaces through the use of texturing and a variety of glazes that result in a range of colors, patterns and characters. In my experience, the final piece accompanies me through daily life yet its form and surface are able to transport my imagination to an oneiric realm. It thus bridges the physical world of the here and now with the metaphysical worlds of dreams and the extraordinary. Whereas I gravitate towards capturing Steven's ceramics in everyday use and within the natural environment of the Iowa farmland where they were created, I cannot resist to also photograph them in ways that hint at the fantastic visions that they entice in my mind.
