Editing the photography of my dear fellow Alejandro Pastrana was a great learning experience. We met in a workshop by Dr. Oscar Colorado on Photography Editing. We delved into the world of taking each other's photography archives, finding groups following morphological and conceptual subjects, and finally deciding on how to publish a curated selection of them into a photography book, a gallery exhibition, and a video slideshow. This page shows the results of my editing of Alejandro's photography collection from 2005 to 2023. While his work can immediately be understood within the canons of documentary photography, his artistic vision is also evident in his rendering of both ordinary and extraordinary events. I hope that my selection and arrangement of his works over the pages of this book can make justice to his work by allowing the viewer to see the threads connecting his oeuvre and to appreciate the bigger picture in his collection.
